When I first read about this from an article someone else shared, my first question was about the Protect Messenger Bag. Looking at the photos on the HP website, I would give it a provisional thumbs up. I like the idea, especially for laptops purchased in a store.
One of the annoying things about buying a laptop is after you buy the thing, you need something to carry it around with. And having all the shipping material that comes with protecting a laptop taking up space, it is an inconvenience.
I like the idea of the customer going home with everything in one bag. Sort of the reason of having a portable computer is you can carry it around in a nice bag. It is not apparent how much padding the Protect Messenger Bag has so one would need to be careful when carrying/slinging it around. Same would go for the overpack box where three laptops are shipped.
Assuming the Protect Messenger Bag has a modicum of protection against brushes against doors and walls, the only criticism I can find for it is the beige color. It does look like it has a little blue design on it. I guess it looks prettier than a standard corporate black bag. Plus it is something of a status symbol -- it's a special waste-reducing bag and not a normal run of the mill bag. And a carrying handle would be nice, but I guess that would violate the definition of "messenger bag".
I can also see this as a way to ship business laptops. Fewer big boxes cluttering the IT shop's limited floor space.
